Everyone has a purpose in life; figuring out what that is can be confusing. What I have found is when you do a little soul-searching, you discover that you are good at many things. Still, you’re not sure what that one thing is that gives you that sense of accomplishment like no other and you call it your purpose in life.
I would begin with a list; naming all the things you know you enjoy. List the things that make time pass freely, and give you that feeling of great contentment. Yes, I did say contentment because when you’re ‘in the zone’ of your purpose, a peace will be with you. You just know you’re doing what you’re supposed to with that special gift from God called life.
Oh, but read on…because although you have peace when fulfilling your purpose, that does not mean it’s not hectic, dangerous, or scary. Oh, no, you may be in the pits of Hell while living your life, and still, you know you’re right where you’re supposed to be. That is your God-intended purpose.
While you are living your God-intended purpose, you also realize you have many purposes on this planet, and you repurpose them all the time! You have many gifts, but your one purpose is much deeper than just a job or hobby. It’s what goes on inside of you that makes your purpose… your purpose.
Maybe you were born to teach, protect, create, design, build, or some other task that makes your world go round. Then again, perhaps you bring laughter to the air, take care of others, or spread love all around.
The reason you were born is for many reasons, but still there is that one thing that makes the world a brighter place for you (and others) to be. Maybe someone is enjoying the product you created, or they are thrilled with the logo you designed. Or something simpler, like your hug made them feel special, or you dropping by with groceries helped them eat better that week. For both parties, there is fulfillment, joy, or contentment.
Certainly, there are many things that are part of your purpose, but the one thing that makes you feel wonderful and fills that dream in your heart…well, to me, that’s your one real purpose chosen by God for you to fill. I also think that if you look at that one thing more closely, you will see all the ways in which your purpose touches the hearts of others, too.
“I am only one. But still, I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” ~ Edward Everett Hale
And so…what is your something?
