Loving with Purpose, “So What’s It About?
This was the question asked over and over at my most recent events; an expo and a fundraiser.
If you’ve ever wondered what my book, Loving with Purpose, is about, let me tell you…
Because of the title I chose (Loving with Purpose), many people believe it might be a religious book. It is not. It is a relationship book.
A book about the relationship you have with yourself and with others.
With that said, I do share small pieces of God in my book, (e.g. Chapter 12: Touchy Topics), but mainly you will read about you and your relationships; a self-help book aimed at helping people find peace and happiness within themselves and with each other.
This does not mean I won’t share religious viewpoints on my website…in my own way. Mostly, from the words of spiritual and religious leaders who I’ve come to respect and trust. I believe, without a doubt, that my life, that the relationship I have with myself, is totally defined by the ways of God.
For this reason, I share what I find helpful, to me and for others, on my website, Loving with Purpose, and other media outlets. God is a part of Loving with Purpose. It has to be…since my belief system is based on His words. Sure, I don’t do anything to perfection; no one does, but I learn more every day and want to share what I find useful.
Although I knew some people didn’t really understand what the book was about, through my most recent expo and fundraiser events, I learned that for certain. I needed to let people know.
I felt it necessary to share the fact that Loving with Purpose, my book, is not based on religion. It is, however, based on personal awareness, self-worth, and success…and although I talk very little about God in the book, I know He is a big part of our journey.
So, that’s it! I just wanted to give more clarity to you about the purpose of my book, Loving with Purpose. I hope you take the time to pick up a copy and check it out for yourself.

Excerpt from Loving with Purpose ~ DIVORCE, DATING, BLENDING, AND OTHERWISE
Women and men alike hope for the best when they enter into a commitment. How about you? Did you ask the right questions before entering into your union? Did you really look at your mate; his character, beliefs, values, and goals? You should ask these, and many more questions, before committing, especially when children are involved. Should you put all of your efforts into this endeavor, and should you put your future on the line? If you are already in a committed relationship, then the answer is yes, you should do your best to keep it together. If you’re just starting out, then take a good, hard look at him, before committing your future.
The good news is that today’s divorce rates have slightly decreased. The bad news is that the statistics don’t necessarily mean relationships are more stable. Let me explain. First, I wasn’t aware that the divorce rate had declined until I went searching for the data. Then, I wanted to understand why the numbers had declined, when there seemed to be so much conversation about divorce these days. According to the National Center for Health Statistics’ (NCHS) National Vital Statistics Report, May 2009 an estimated 3.4 (out of 1000 people) of marriages ended in divorce out of the 44 states polled in the United States.
After hours of endless research on the topic, I found that some of the reasons could be that there are fewer marriages happening each year and more people living together. I also think people are waiting longer to tie the knot than in previous decades. Regardless of the reason for the decreased rates, it is good for marriage to be taken seriously.
If you have had a relationship that went bad, whether you were married or not, is it possible that you could have kept it from going into the ditch simply by being present during the moments? Just think about it…

Standards, Expectations & Goals spreadsheet
“This is EXCELLENT. I think you explained the differences between standards, expectations & goals quite clearly…and the list you included showed those differences. I actually intend on using the form myself…starting with jobs and education
Maybe relationships; if time can be given to any extra curricular activity. Still, I am open to it; where before, I was closed off from that thought. Thank you for all the work you’re doing on your blog and please keep me updated on your progress.” ~ MBB
Excerpt from Loving with Purpose on Loaning
EXPECTED RETURNS: THE VALUE OF A LOAN
People are miles apart on the opinion of loaning possessions out. Some people “lend it and forget it,” while many others have the expectation of retrieving their items because they see the value in what they own. If you teach children to return what they borrow, they carry that lesson with them through life, and they learn to value and appreciate what others have worked to acquire.
